A pharmacy manager who is ‘passionate about food’ is set to open an American-style diner in Briercliffe.

An application has been submitted to Burnley Borough Council to open hot food outlet Stateside Burgers in Briercliffe Shopping Centre.

The unit has been empty for two years and was formerly a discounted carpet store.

The applicant, Mr Asghar, works in the local area and in documents submitted with the application his agent states: “He is passionate about food and wishes to provide a premium American diner style cheeseburger, cakes and soft drinks takeaway experience to the Briercliffe community.”

Neighbouring units in the shopping centre, which is just over a mile away from Burnley town centre, include a bank, a couple of betting shops, a large supermarket, a charity shop, an optician, a pizza takeaway and a southern fried chicken takeaway. Some of the units are still vacant.

Stateside Burgers will sell freshly-made American-style burgers, cakes and soft drinks and will open between 5pm and 11pm Monday to Sunday.

The report submitted to the council states: “The applicant wishes to provide a premium takeaway experience to the Briercliffe community, of which he is an active member.”

Three full-time jobs will be created for the new outlet which will offer “a unique eating experience”.

A decision on the change of use of the shopping centre unit will be made by Burnley Borough Council.
