NUIG Mystics captured the South Conference title at the weekend, and with it top seeding for this weekend’s league play-offs, as the national basketball season draws to a close.

The Students added the conference title to the Division 1 Cup they won back in January against a Templeogue side they will now face this weekend in the league semi-finals.

The Galway derby between Moycullen and NUIG Maree in the Men’s Super League also takes place on Sunday in the NUIG Sports Arena (3pm), with the two sides facing a different end to the season.

Both sides have three games left, but while NUIG Maree are looking forward to the league play-offs – they can’t be overtaken in fourth place in the South Conference – Moycullen are trying to finish away from the foot of the table and a potential relegation play-off.

Basketball Ireland has confirmed the picture for the play-offs for the league titles, but said the situation regarding promotion/relegation to/from Men’s Super League/Men’s Division 1 is still to be determined.

NUIG Mystics lifted the South Conference title in style on Sunday, running out 12-point winners in a game that, in the end, didn’t matter after Limerick Sport Huskies had been beaten the previous day.
