IRON MOUNTAIN — The Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain is busy preparing for the 12th annual Prom Dress Swap set to take place this weekend.

The swap will be 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the main library at 401 Iron Mountain St.

Area teens are invited to choose a dress along with matching accessories, such as ties, shoes, jewelry and purses — all free of charge.

“We have well over a hundred dresses,” said Nikki Younk,

Dickinson County Library public relations/information specialist. “We also have a large selection of accessories.”

Those who want to participate do not need to donate an item or be a library card holder.

The library has added another feature to the event. “This year, we’re happy to offer a prize drawing for two tuxedo rentals from Nic’s Boutique,” Younk said.

Teens can stop at the library during regular hours through March 20 to enter the tuxedo drawing — one entry is allowed per day.

The library are still accepting donations of clean and gently used dresses, ties, shoes and other prom accessories during library hours. Donations can be dropped off at the Solomonson branch in Norway and the North Dickinson branch in Felch Township through Thursday, and at the Iron Mountain library through Friday.

Donors and attendees will also be entered in a prize drawing.

“This event wouldn’t be possible without generous donations from the public, as well as the Friends of the Library and many sponsors,” Younk said.
