Known as poulaines, pointy leather shoes were the height of fashion in 14th century Britain. Medieval men and women about town, however, suffered for their fancy footwear: They got bunions.

A pharmacy manager who is ‘passionate about food’ is set to open an American-style diner in Briercliffe.

An application has been submitted to Burnley Borough Council to open hot food outlet Stateside Burgers in Briercliffe Shopping Centre.

The unit has been empty for two years and was formerly a discounted carpet store.

The applicant, Mr Asghar, works in the local area and in documents submitted with the application his agent states: “He is passionate about food and wishes to provide a premium American diner style cheeseburger, cakes and soft drinks takeaway experience to the Briercliffe community.”
